The Prince, written by Niccolo Machiavelli, is one of the earliest pieces of literature on political science. Though Machiavelli does not stress one type of government over another, he attempts to establish some of the universal truths about governing by analyzing human nature. With this in mind, complete the following assignment:

Write a letter (in that form) to a political leader (real or imaginary, modern or historical).

The purpose of this letter is to inform that politician how to be a strong leader based upon the information and insights provided by Niccolo Machiavelli. Please note that he does not correlate strength with goodness - there is a significant difference.

Within the letter, make detailed reference to any two of the following concepts as seen and interpreted by Machiavelli:

1. The role of virtue (Machiavelli's definition) in becoming strong
2. The role of fortune (again, his definition of the term)
3. The role of fear and/or cruelty
4. His view of human nature
5. The role of the military in ruling well
6. The role of treaties and agreements in ruling well
7. Money, taxes
8. Morality

In addition, be sure to do the following:

Make reference to some of the many examples that Machiavelli uses to support his points. Also, use quotes from the book to support your argument. (Note: Cliff's Notes does not have quotes…sorry)
